Is Aspartame safe?

Aspartame-smlI think most of you have heard about aspartame. According to the Aspartame Information Centre, Aspartame, sold under the brand name of NutraSweet, Equal or AminoSweet is consumed by over 200 million people around the world and is found in more than 6,000 products including carbonated soft drinks, powdered soft drinks, chewing gum, confections, gelatins, dessert mixes, puddings and fillings, frozen desserts, yogurt, tabletop sweeteners, and some pharmaceuticals such as vitamins and sugar-free cough drops.

How does aspartame affect the body?
Aspartame is converted to formaldehyde (a poison) once it reaches temperatures in excess of 30ºC (86ºF). This occurs once it has been ingested. It is then converted to formic acid, which is a very highly toxic substance. Aspartame is potentially one of the deadliest neurotoxins in the world.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published a list of 92 symptoms of aspartame poisoning, which include asthma, brain cancer, sexual dysfunction, irritability, seizures, vision problems, weight gain, chronic fatigue and death. Regardless of its toxic consequences to consumers, the numbers of foods, beverages and medications containing aspartame increase each year.

Adverse reactions to aspartame comprised approximately 80 percent of consumer complaints received by the FDA. Unfortunately after 1992 the FDA stopped categorizing these complaints as a specific Aspartame complaint. For example if death by seizure was reported as a reaction to aspartame, the death was recorded as seizure only and not as an “aspartame” seizure.

Dr. Hal Roberts, who is an expert on aspartame related medical issues, suggests that patients who have been newly diagnosed with Grave’s disease (autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid) for example should eliminate all aspartame products from their diet before starting any medical treatment. Once the body detoxes from the aspartame, the symptoms may disappear.

The evidence is exhaustively documented in “Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic” by H.J. Roberts.

Please if you have to have a soft drink, drink the sugar loaded drink, not the diet option. Even better drink filtered water.
