Are breakfast cereals healthy?

We are all aware that a lot of cereals are high in sugar and therefore unhealthy. What about low sugar cereals? Grain cereals are highly processed and have very little nutritional value.

The grains are forced out of a tiny hole at high temperature and pressure, which turns them into shapes. Individual grains passed through the extruder expand to produce puffed wheat, oats and rice. These products are then subjected to sprays that give a coating of oil and sugar to seal off the cereal from fluids such as milk and to give it crunch. The extrusion process destroys much of their nutrients. It destroys amino acids which are the building blocks of protein and denatures fat.

Many cereals have vitamins added, but these are synthetic (man-made) vitamins that the body is simply not designed to metabolise. Many synthetic vitamins are actually treated as toxins and are eliminated by your body as quickly as possible.

What about organic whole grain cereals?
The same process of extrusion is used.

Most people then add milk to their cereal, which has even more detrimental consequences. Click here for more information. click here

What are the alternatives?
It doesn’t take long to fry, scramble or poach a couple of eggs, add some vegetables and you have a nutritious meal. How about a green smoothie? It only takes a few minutes to prepare these breakfast options and not only will you start your day with a nutritious meal, but you will avoid eating non-nutritional and potentially toxic food.
